A power window motor that is going bad will normally be slow or jerky just before it fails. You may also hear a grinding noise. If you suspect the motor is bad, the first thing to check is the power window relay. This is normally located in the fuse box or relay center (check your owners manual). The relay shuts the power if the motor or wiring is in danger of overheating. The relay may be HOT, so use caution when touching it. With the key turned to the “on” position, have a helper move the switch up and down. If you hear or feel a clicking, the relay is trying to send power to the motor, and the motor is probably bad. It is NOT recommended to test with a test light anymore, as the motors are often wired into the sensitive electronics and the power draw from the test light can damage the electronics.
There are retaining clips holding the edge and some screws for the door pulls and trim. Do not force the panel, but look for hidden retainers or screws if the panel will not come off easily. The door panel may need to be removed in an upward direction as sometimes they go over the top edge of the door. Be careful if the switch is still attached, as you will need to disconnect any remaining wires. After the panel is removed, you will need to remove the plastic wind barrier.
